Valentin Dmitrievich Berestov (1928–1998) was a poet, writer, and translator. His talent for writing manifested itself in early childhood, and as a teenager, K. I. Chukovsky himself predicted a brilliant literary future for him. The book "How to Find the Path: Poems and Fairy Tales" includes the writer's finest works from various periods. The collection is divided into three sections. The first contains Berestov's poems. The second contains fairy tales with Russian folk motifs, but in the author's own interpretation. The third section includes Berestov's cycle of lyrical fairy tales, which gives the entire collection its title.
