The publication includes monographs by Polish and Russian historians A. I. Pavinsky (1840-1896) and I. A. Lebedev (1846-1916), published in 1871 and 1876. Their works are a continuation of the famous "History of the Baltic Slavs" by A. F. Gilferding (published in 1854-1855, republished in 2013) and tell about the struggle of the South Baltic Slavs, who gave us the Varangians (Varangian Rus), against the powerful onslaught of the German-Catholic world, about the struggle, according to the German chronicler of the 10th century Vidukind Korveisky, "for freedom, against the threat of the greatest slavery".
By the admission of both historians, they turned to this topic because of the very biased approach of German scholars to the interpretation of the history of the South Baltic Slavs, conquered and destroyed by their ancestors.
Preparation of texts, author of biographical sketches and final article V. V. Fomin
For specialists and all those interested in the history of the South Baltic Slavs and their centuries-long and closest connection with Russia.
