After the success of the Cuban Revolution, guerrilla movements spread throughout Latin America. The local oligarchy and the U.S. military, which ruled the region, did everything they could to prevent their success. To fight the communist guerrillas, so-called "death squads" were created - secret detachments consisting of mercenaries, bandits and ultra-right-wing militants. Their tasks included fighting the "red menace", terrorizing "unreliable" peasants, and killing the unwanted. The death squads were famous for their unprecedented cruelty, sometimes completely senseless. Their crimes were often compared to those of Hitler's executioners. The atrocities of the squadrons did not stop for more than half a century. They left horrific bloody wounds on the bodies of Colombia, El Salvador. Guatemala, Argentina and other Latin American countries. After the collapse of the USSR, the terror of the "squadrons" was not a thing of the past. After the decline of guerrilla movements in Latin America, the squadrons reoriented themselves to fight peaceful opposition. They still terrorize the whole of Latin America.
