Inventing Modernity: An Essay on Contemporary Art
29.99 €
“Invent Modernity” is a collection of articles by art historian, honorary professor of New York University Linda Nochlin, which included her iconic texts. The heroes of these essays - artists and critics (Gustave Courbet, Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Edouard Manet, Robert Gober, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Meyer Shapiro, etc.) - unite under one cover the approach to modernism, which adheres to Nochlin. This is not a universal narrative embodied in certain forms, but, according to Charles Baudelaire’s formula, the artist’s ability to be modern, that is, to be in his own time. Each section of the book touches on a certain socio-cultural aspect and motif, sounding in many works of the researcher: political revolution as a utopian possibility, corporeality, ideology of race and colonialism, subjectivism in art.
