Boris Zaitsev (1881-1972) was a writer, essayist, memoirist and translator. From the beginning of the twentieth century he actively participated in the literary life of Moscow and St. Petersburg, published in various editions, was close to many literary contemporaries. In 1922, together with his family left for treatment in Berlin, and in December 1923 he settled in Paris, where he spent the greater period of his work. He published in almost all editions of the Russian abroad, organized literary evenings and meetings, maintained friendly relations with emigrant writers. In 1904, B.K. Zaitsev first visited Italy, the love for which he carried through all his work. As a result of this trip, as well as trips to Italy in 1908 and 1911-1912 years appeared essays, then included in the cycle "Italy". In 1923 in the publishing house of Z.I. Grzebin he was printed in a separate volume of the collection of works of the writer. The present edition includes essays from the cycle "Italy", as well as other "Italian" works by B.K. Zaitsev, created in different years. The book also contains an introductory article and a detailed historical and literary commentary by Anastasia Golubtsova, Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Researcher of the IMLI RAS.
