The book, the title of which is borrowed from Aristotle, presents an original analysis of the figure of the animal in the philosophical tradition. Animality and the phenomena equated with it or in contact with it (such as, for example, poverty or madness) serve in our culture as a kind of double or negative model, by comparing oneself with which a person defines his nature and essence. Before us is the experience not so much of philosophical zoology as of philosophical anthropology, which differs from classical anthropological and, by default, anthropocentric teachings in that it addresses not the center in which a person, confident in his own exceptionalism, places himself, but the periphery and boundaries of the human. Reading “animal” stories from works of philosophy (Aristotle, Descartes, Hegel, Simondon, Heidegger, etc.) and literature (F. Kafka and A. Platonov), the author examines what happens on these boundaries - transformed forms and ways of becoming that arise in connection with certain strategies of knowledge and power.
