The leading Russian military scientist V. G. Fedorov (1874-1966) went down in history as the founder of the national school of weapons designers and the inventor of the first Russian assault rifle.
In his unique work "History of the Rifle", published on the eve of the Great Patriotic War, the author tells how small arms gradually changed and improved as military art developed. The book describes in chronological order its numerous examples - from throwing weapons of ancient times (bows, slings, balases, darts, crossbows, arquebuses), flintlock rifles and muskets - to the creation of the legendary 3-line Mosin rifle and the first automatic rifles and assault rifles of the 20th century.
The author's drawings and blueprints of the 1940 edition are supplemented with color photographs of small arms samples from museum and private collections, works of classical battle painting. The book is addressed to everyone who is interested in the history of weapons.
