Sima Qian (145-86 BC) is a great Chinese scientist, historian and geographer, philosopher and astronomer, historiographer of the Han Dynasty, creator of "Shi ji" - a grandiose historical work, comparable in its role and significance for China to Herodotus' "History" for Western culture.

"Shi ji" - "Historical Notes" of Sima Qian, created between 109 and 91 BC, cover a huge period of Chinese history over two millennia - from the mythical Yellow Emperor to the Western Han Empire inclusive.

This edition includes 17 chapters of the biographies section, narrating the deeds of not only emperors, but also statesmen and philosophers, diplomats and military leaders of Ancient China.
