The collection includes two creations, "Confessions of Blessed Augustine, Bishop of Hippo" and a biography of Blessed Monica entitled "Blessed Monica. The Mother of Blessed Augustine." "Confessions" is considered the first example of autobiography in European literature. It covers part of Blessed Augustine's life journey (33 years out of about 40 lived by the time of its writing) and contains a narrative of his spiritual quest. Blessed Monica is honored as the patroness of mothers. Her unceasing prayer for her son, Blessed Augustine, saved him from spiritual ruin. In time, he became one of the greatest fathers of the Church and wrote with gratitude that he owed his conversion to Christianity to his mother's prayers.
