"A Hunter's Sketches" is a cycle of short stories by I.S. Turgenev, which were published in 1847-1851 in the Sovremennik magazine and were released as a separate edition in 1852. It was these stories that brought fame to the writer.

In "Notes..." Turgenev reflected a deeply truthful picture of serf Russia. The hero-narrator is a wandering hunter, an educated and observant man, who tells the reader about how different strata of the population lived in the provinces - from noble gentry to poor peasants.

The collection includes all the stories, including those added by the author to the cycle in the 1870s, as well as unfinished sketches. The publication is supplemented with illustrations by artists of the 19th - early 20th centuries and Turgenev himself.
