The Great French Revolution is raging in France, and the destinies of three young women - the aristocrat Hortense, the wallpaper factory worker Sophie and her sister, the maid Lara - are intertwined in the most bizarre way.
After the death of their father, the sisters are forced to move from Marseille to the outskirts of Paris, where they get jobs at the factory of Wilhelm Oberst - his wallpaper is famous for its intricate designs. Sophie falls in love with the son of the factory owner Joseph, who is crazy about Lara - who reminds him of his mother, who died an untimely mysterious death, the heroine of countless idyllic scenes on antique wallpaper - but Hortense, a native of the Louvre, becomes the wife of young Oberst. The situation in the Oberst castle, and at the factory, and in nearby revolutionary Paris becomes increasingly alarming. Each heroine has her own reasons to fear for her own life and hide. Will they be able to escape from the bloody cycle of history?
