Regino (840/850–915), Abbot of Prüm, a historian of the post-Carolingian era, was the first German chronicler. His Chronicle is a universal chronicle (from the birth of Christ and continued by a successor to 967), and according to information from the 9th–10th centuries, it is a highly valuable historical source. The Chronicle's continuation was written by Adalbert, a missionary bishop sent to Rus' to Princess Olga. The mission was unsuccessful, and Adalbert became Archbishop of Magdeburg. The book is provided with scholarly apparatus, appendices, and indexes.
