The study is devoted to the development of the early statehood of the Goths in Eastern Europe in the 3rd-4th centuries. Special attention is paid to two Gothic pre-state formations (polities): Gothia of the Tervingi and the Kingdom of the Greutungi. For the first time in Russian and foreign historiography, a comparison of these two Gothic polities with each other and their general comparison with the Slavic polities of the same period is carried out.

The use of almost a complete set of written sources on Gothic history, a critical approach to recent research, as well as methods of foreign and Russian politanthropology allowed the author to contribute to solving the problems of the era of late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, which gave grounds to shift the time of the appearance of the first Proto-Slavic potestary formations in Eastern Europe approximately to the 2nd century and to put forward his own concept of early statehood.

The work is intended for specialists engaged in the problems of late Antiquity, the era of the Great Migration of Peoples and the early Middle Ages, as well as for a wide range of readers.
