In the first story, Count de Champignac, a tireless explorer and brilliant scientist, discovers a dinosaur egg from the late Jurassic period of the Mesozoic Era in the ice of Antarctica. With every precaution, the Count brings the priceless find home. In his laboratory, he plans to remove the egg from deep freezing, slowly warm it back to life, and then place it in an incubator where it will hatch into a living Plateosaurus. Indeed, the Count and his fellow scientists, who have come from various countries, witness an incredible event—the birth of a dinosaur. However, by a fateful coincidence, the baby grows to colossal proportions overnight. The prehistoric giant leaves the Count's estate and heads for the city, wreaking havoc on everything in its path. The city authorities are in a panic, the military scrambles planes and calls in tanks. Amid all this chaos, Spirou hatches a brilliant plan to isolate the dinosaur, yet preserve it for science and make it useful to society.
In the second story, Count de Champignac accidentally drinks a noxious sediment instead of coffee, which can cause even the most level-headed person to lose control. This is precisely what happens: the harmless scientist turns into a fiend. Spirou and Fantasio urgently call the Count's biologist colleague, who must prepare an antidote. The friends must defuse the bomb the Count has planted and help the biologist administer the life-saving medicine to the Count.
The perky little Spirou, wearing a bright red groom's suit and first appearing on the cover of the magazine of the same name in 1938, is a true legend of Franco-Belgian comics. For 85 years, together with his friend, the tireless journalist Fantasio, and his faithful companion, a clever squirrel named Spip, he has traveled the world, investigating mysterious events, rescuing those in trouble, restoring justice, and punishing villains, making thousands of amazing discoveries along the way.
