This edition includes selected works by Karl Haushofer (1869-1946), a classic of German geopolitical thought. Developing the views of Ratzel, Chellen, Mackinder and Bismarck's idea of a Russo-German alliance, he developed the theory of the "continental bloc" or "vital space", which became the official doctrine of the Third Reich. However, Karl Haushofer himself did not share the views of the Nazi top brass in Germany. According to Austrian writer Stefan Zweig, a close friend of Haushofer, who read his works, the original intentions of the German geopolitician "aimed at the rapprochement of nations."

K. Haushofer received a military education, carried out various diplomatic assignments in Southeast Asia, worked as a military attaché in Japan, and participated in World War I (retired with the rank of major general). For many years he was a professor at the University of Munich, founded the Institute of Geopolitics and the Journal of Geopolitics.
