Farmers Market
It's a busy Saturday morning at Green Meadow Farm. Harvest is in full swing in the orchard. Crates of fresh cherries, raspberries and currants are being stacked into the back of the owner's truck. At a neighboring cheese factory, cheese heads are being loaded into a bright red van. The owners of a poultry farm carry chicken eggs and packages of homemade noodles into their yellow truck. A green truck is parked near the greenhouses, with crates of fresh vegetables already in it. When all the preparations are done, the cars line up one by one, and in a colorful string they set off. Where are they going? Farmers are hurrying to the main town square to be in time for the opening of the weekend market. There are regular customers waiting for them, who come every week for fresh and organic vegetables, fruits and other locally produced products. On the way, the farmers stop by a large supermarket to give some of their produce for sale there as well. In the town square, the cargo vans are transformed into stalls on wheels - it's very convenient. And here are the first customers. They come to the market as a whole family. While parents pick out food and talk with vendors, children play by the fountain and play with the sheep in the petting zoo that farmer Bruno built for them.
This book is not only a fascinating tour of the farm with visits to the cheese factory, sheep barn, poultry farm, greenhouses and orchards, but also a story about how and from where delicious and healthy products from local producers get to city markets and supermarkets.
