Alexander Pushkin's novel Eugene Onegin is one of the most significant works of Russian literature. Over the course of two centuries, it has been illustrated by many artists, and Nikolai Vasilyevich Kuzmin holds a special place among them. His illustrations, executed, according to the artist himself, in the "tempo" of Pushkin's drawings, were created specifically for the publication of the novel to commemorate the centenary of Pushkin's death. In 1937, they were awarded the Gold Medal at the World's Fair in Paris.

Nikolai Kuzmin's illustrations enhance the novel's atmosphere and create a sense of the era's authenticity. The artist paid close attention to the details of costumes, interiors, and landscapes, recreating the historical flavor of Pushkin's time.

Notes and commentary were compiled by the eminent Pushkin scholar Boris Tomashevsky. They help the reader to delve deeper into the world of Pushkin's novel, to see its multi-layered nature and richness of artistic solutions, and have become an important tool for studying and understanding Eugene Onegin.
