After the publication of Pushkin's novel in 1958, illustrated by Lydia Timoshenko in the grisaille technique, the artist not only did not find peace - unexpectedly for many, she turned away from her "Onegin" ("no one is to blame for this except me, since I did it too late, and now life has moved on") and ... again took up illustrating "Onegin". In keeping with the new times, Lydia Yakovlevna began to seek greater freedom, lightness, laconicism of form, simplicity. She transferred the entire series to the technique of color lithography, in a sparse color scheme. But this was not just a transfer to another technique, but a new endlessly painful search for the greatest expressiveness and poetry.
Work on the new book lasted more than six years. Like the version with grisailles, the lithographs were published only once, in 1966.
