"It was not only an apostle ... it was a prophet; it was a teacher of all good things; it was our social conscience." So a few days after Dostoevsky's death, collector and patron of the arts Pavel Tretyakov wrote about him in a letter to the artist Ivan Kramsky. It has been 140 years since Dostoevsky's death and 200 years since his birth. Hundreds of books and thousands of articles have been written about him. But for many people he continues to be a mystery. The title of this book - "The Gospel of Dostoevsky" - has a double meaning. It is not only about the Gospel he read all his life, but also about the one he wrote. For his work was the "good news" for the Russian people - the prophetic and apostolic message of salvation through Christ. Dostoevsky is one of the most difficult Russian writers to understand. More than anyone else, he makes the reader think by posing questions and not giving direct answers. And the Gospel is one of the keys by which Dostoevsky's worldview is revealed. And Dostoevsky's writings can be a key for someone to discover the Gospel. This book examines Dostoevsky's Christian worldview against the background of his biography and on the basis of his four novels: Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Besy, and The Brothers Karamazov. As additional sources, other works of his, including the novel "Teenager", "Diary of a Writer", letters and notebooks, as well as memoirs about Dostoevsky by his relatives and friends, are attracted. The work of the writer is presented in the general context of Russian literature of the 19th century and the social and political situation in Russia of his time.
