"The Egyptian" (1945) is a historical novel by the Finnish writer Mika Waltari (1908-1979), which became a bestseller and was translated into more than thirty languages. Mika Waltari managed to create a work that attracts not only with its exciting plot twists and authentic historical setting, but also with a sense of involvement in the events that took place in Ancient Egypt during the reign of the reformist pharaoh Akhenaten and his royal wife Nefertiti. The effect of presence is achieved, in many ways, due to the confessional nature of the narrative, since the main character, the doctor Sinuhe, writes the story of his life only "for himself and for his own sake." In addition, due to his profession and natural thirst for knowledge, he penetrates behind such doors and becomes initiated into such secrets that are not available to anyone else.
