Persuasion is a story in which the theme of love is intertwined with reflections on choice, duty, and inner fortitude.
In 1817, Austen's final novel, considered her most autobiographical, was published. Readers received it indifferently, but in 1818, an anonymous review appeared in The British Critic: "...her novels possess a wonderful, finished perfection that is difficult to surpass."

Anne Elliot, a young and sensual woman, falls in love with a poor sailor, Frederick Wentworth. Her family, hoping to protect her from a rash step, disapproves of this union. The engagement breaks off, but several years later, fate brings Anne back together with the now mature and established Captain Wentworth. Will love give them a second chance?
