Red Dorakin has been on the road for a very long time. In fact, an eternity. The Road stretches endlessly into the past and future, and the exits allow him to get anywhere... and at any "when."

Billy Singer Black Horse, the last Navajo Indian on a future Earth and an unrivaled hunter, is called upon to protect an alien diplomat from a deadly threat. In turn, he gains the opportunity to gain the aid of a strange telepathic being named Cat, and makes an unusual pact with him: after completing the mission, Cat will hunt Black Horse. To survive, Singer must journey back to his roots, to the myths and legends of his ancestors, to where his deepest fears lurk, and conquer them.
