Perhaps Friedrich August von Hayek's most notorious work, The Road to Slavery, was published during the war years (1944) and became one of the recognized works in defense of a free society. Repeatedly reprinted and translated into many languages, it has had a great impact on world economics and politics, embodying the ideological basis for the rejection of total state control over the economic sphere. Hayek convincingly and argumentatively debunks the myth of the effectiveness of the "all-powerful state", criticizes socialist ideology and economics and proves that they inevitably lead to totalitarianism and dictatorship. And the expansion of state power, according to Hayek, suppresses the personal freedom of citizens and the development of culture.
