Silke was only sixteen years old when she entered the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1942. The girl's beauty attracts the attention of the camp's senior officers, and Silka is forcibly separated from the other female prisoners. She quickly learns that power, even unwanted, equals survival. The war is over. The camp has been liberated. However, Silka is accused of espionage and that she slept with the enemy, and is sent to the Vorkuta camp. And here Silka daily faces death, terror and violence. But she is lucky: a kind doctor takes the girl under his wing and begins to teach her to be a nurse. In an effort to survive, the girl discovers in herself a willpower that she did not suspect. She begins to tentatively strike up friendships in this harsh, new reality and is surprised to realize that, despite everything that has happened to her, there is a place in her heart for love.
