Ivan Yegorovich Zabelin (1820-1908) was an outstanding Russian historian and archaeologist. His most famous work is "The Domestic Life of the Russian People in the 16th and 17th Centuries." "The Domestic Life of Russian Tsars in the 16th and 17th Centuries" (1862) is its first part, and "The Domestic Life of Russian Tsarinas in the 16th and 17th Centuries" (1869) is the second. Both books have been reprinted many times and are still of great interest not only to specialists, but also to all lovers of Russian history. "The Domestic Life of Russian Tsars in the 16th and 17th Centuries" is essentially the first attempt to study the everyday life of the royal court, which helps to better understand the uniqueness of national culture and statehood. The sources introduced into research circulation for the first time allowed Zabelin to trace the formation and then the decline of the patriarchal way of life in Russian life by the beginning of Peter the Great's reforms.
