The novel "Agamemnon's Daughter" (1985) is told from the perspective of a young man, the lover of the daughter of a party official appointed as the country's leader's successor. The girl's personal life is sacrificed to her father's political ambitions. During the dictatorship, publication of this text in Albania was impossible; even the manuscript could have landed the author in prison. To save the novel, it was secretly smuggled abroad and stored in a bank vault in Paris. It was only published after political change in the country.

In his second novel, "The Successor" (2003), the author turns to real events—the mysterious death of the second-in-command in the party hierarchy, declared heir to dictator Enver Hoxha. The circumstances of this suicide (or murder) are surrounded by numerous theories—from rational to mystical—and form a multifaceted narrative about power, the power of fear, and human nature.
