The Diary of Anne Frank was published in the Netherlands in 1947 and sold millions of copies worldwide, being translated into dozens of languages. It was first published in Russian in 1960, during the "Thaw," and for a long time remained one of the few accessible accounts of the Holocaust for Soviet readers.

For two years (from June 1942 to August 1944), several brave Dutch people hid eight doomed people from the Nazis, including Anne Frank, her older sister, and her parents. The Jewish girl recorded the events of their lives in the "shelter" in a diary. In the preface to the Russian edition, Ilya Ehrenburg wrote: "This is not a novel by a celebrated writer, but the diary of a thirteen-year-old girl; But it shocks the reader more than masterfully written books... Everyone knows that the Nazis murdered six million Jews, citizens of twenty countries, rich and poor, famous and unknown... They were separated from the world by ghetto walls, the barbed wire of concentration camps. No one knows what they thought and felt. One voice speaks for six million—not a sage, not a poet—but an ordinary girl."

This book presents "The Diary of Anne Frank" translated by Rita Rait-Kovaleva with a foreword by Ilya Ehrenburg.
