Such an unusual creative community of Ilya Ilf and Evgeny Petrov does not cease to touch and excite the reader, the memory of them does not fade, and the love for their books does not weaken. Working together for a short time (only ten years), the co-authors left behind a huge layer of literary masterpieces of various genres.
The works included in this collection were written in the period separating the novel “Twelve Chairs” from the novel “Golden Calf”, as well as in the more mature creative period of co-authorship of satirists – from 1929 to 1934. Denouncing philistinism, sycophancy and bureaucracy, the satirists opposed hypocrisy in art and literature, against literary adaptation and “strict citizens” who believed that “laughter is harmful” and that “satire cannot be funny.”
Rereading these imperishable masterpieces, it is impossible not to admire the variety of creative talents of writers, the literary brilliance of their feuilletons, essays, comedies.
