Thornton Waldo Burgess (1874-1965) was an American naturalist and explorer, a classic of children's literature of the 20th century. He knew the habits of animals very well and was able to tell children about them wonderfully. Over time, Burgess began to write down these stories. This is how a huge cycle of fairy tales appeared - about 15,000 - about Peter Rabbit, his friends and other inhabitants of the area invented by the writer: the Green Forest, the Laughing River, the Friendly Pond, the Purple Hills, and the Thornwood Gully. The heroes of the second book in the series sometimes get into trouble, but always draw the right conclusions. The seemingly unsightly Uncle Toad turns out to be a wonderful singer. He sometimes tends to turn up his nose, but the inhabitants of the Green Forest and the Laughing River quickly manage to re-educate him. And the strange alien, the porcupine Dick the Tough-Fingered, also not a handsome man, but oh so interesting, helps teach a lesson to the bully fox Rui and his grandmother the fox Plutitia, and at the same time the wily coyote.
