The action of the story “Dinka” takes place in Russia at the beginning of the XX century. The Arsenyev family spends the summer at the dacha near Samara. Eight-year-old Dinke is bored all day sitting in the same place with his sisters and aunt. Freedom-loving and wayward, she often sneaks away to the shore of the Volga, where, because of the “difficult” character, she constantly falls into the whirlpool of events – pleasant and not very. During one of these sorties, the girl meets the orphan Lenka, who works for the cruel owner. So Dinka has a friend for life.
In many ways, Valentina Oseeva’s autobiographical book tells about true friendship and loyalty, honor and honesty, devotion to loved ones and a common cause. But it is also a story about how children grow up, how they learn to see the real in people, to appreciate and understand the world around them.
Expressive drawings of Julia Kazarnitskaya, accompanying the story, make the images of the heroes visible and memorable.
The book has been republished several times and has been filmed twice.
