This collection includes two essay cycles by Lu Xun (1881-1936), which exerted the greatest influence on 20th-century Chinese literature.

In "Wild Herbs," inspired by Russian writers, revolutionary events and social change are transformed into the author's dreams, visions, and nightmares, while reality is lost in free verse.

"Morning Flowers Plucked at Dusk" reveals Lu Xun's life and, at the same time, China's path to revolution. Memories of childhood, education, people, and emotions are interspersed with reflections on Chinese culture as a whole, with a keen attention to history and folklore. Lu Xun has been called the "soul of the Chinese nation," and in this collection, it is revealed to the reader.
