When Kimberly Chang was eleven years old, a new chapter began in her destiny: together with her mother, she emigrated from Hong Kong to America. With virtually no money, no knowledge of the language and no clear idea of what awaits her. And soon Kimberly begins a double life: during the day she goes to school like everyone else, and in the evening she works as a slave in a small sewing factory in Chinatown. She is forced to hide her poverty and her work from her classmates and teachers, while managing to remain a brilliant student. Day by day, Kimberly realizes that only faith in herself and endless desire will help her and her mother escape from the shabby, icy apartment with cockroaches to a new and better future. And step by step she begins to build a bridge between two such different worlds, trying not to lose the main thing - herself.
