This edition includes A. B. Mariengof's novels "Cynics" and "The Shaved Man."

First published abroad by the Berlin publishing house Petropolis ("Cynics" in 1928, "The Shaved Man" in 1930), Mariengof's works were deemed "antisocial" in Soviet Russia. For many years, his name "dropped out" of the literary scene. Russian readers only had the opportunity to read "Cynics" in 1988, while "The Shaved Man" was first published in Russia in 1991. In 1991, Dmitry Meskhiev made a film based on "Cynics." Today, no one doubts that Mariengof's creative legacy, like that of Platonov, Pilnyak, and Zamyatin, is a classic of the 20th century.
