For a long time the name of Georgy Sergeevich Agabekov was under a ban. The author of this book was one of the first high-ranking OGPU officers who broke with the Stalinist regime and escaped from the USSR to the West. Being a resident in Turkey, in 1930 he stopped communicating and moved to Paris. For seven years Agabekov was on the run and during this time wrote several books in which he told about the methods of work of Soviet intelligence. Attempts to destroy the traitor in 1931 and 1934 were unsuccessful; using his knowledge of the work of the VChK OGPU, the traitor was able to avoid liquidation. However, in 1937 he was eliminated by a special group of the NKVD in France. In this book Agabekov tells his story of working in the Cheka, and also offers his own version of the events that pushed him to betrayal.
