On the evening of June 3, 1943 in Moscow on the stairs of the Bolshoi Kamenny Bridge, the son of the USSR aviation industry commissar A.I. Shakhurin first shot his girlfriend Nina, the daughter of the Soviet ambassador to Mexico Konstantin Umansky, and then shot himself. During the investigation it turned out that Volodya Shakhurin led a youth anti-Soviet organization called "The Fourth Empire". This organization included children of the highest Soviet party and government elite. It is said that Stalin, upon hearing the report of the investigation, said succinctly, "Volchata." This story forms the central plot of the novel A. Terekhov's novel "Stone Bridge", which won the "Big Book" award in 2009. In 2020, the TV series "Wolf" was filmed, dedicated to the "Case of the Wolves". Based on documents from the investigative case R-788 "The Fourth Empire" (Central Archive of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation), the author reconstructed the events preceding the shots on the stairs of the Bolshoi Kamenny Bridge.
