Britain at the beginning of the 18th century. England finally officially annexed Scotland, creating a single union state. But many freedom-loving Scots were not happy with the new kingdom. The Jacobites, supporters of the exiled royal descendants, sharpened their black knives and claymores and prepared another commotion. During this turbulent time, a strange creature—something between a dwarf and a shadowless man—dwelt in the wild Borderlands. It lived in the swamps and was not particularly fond of humans. But some sometimes visited it, for it possessed healing and sorcery skills.
The latest volume of Masters of Adventure includes Walter Scott's mysterious novel, Black Dwarf, which tells the whole truth about the era of old Nancy, or Queen Anne, the first ruler of Great Britain and the last of the Stuart line. This publication complements the author's collection of mystical stories and legends from the almanac "Kipsek." One of them, as well as several forewords by the great Scotsman, are published in Russian for the first time.
