Georgy Vladimirovich Ivanov (1894-1958), one of the outstanding Russian poets of the 20th century, was friends with many representatives of the national culture of the Silver Age. Memoir essays about literary Petersburg in the 1910s and early 1920s (some of them the author combined in the book "Petersburg Winters"), written in exile, brought him scandalous fame: some contemporaries reproached the author in unreliability, and sometimes in outright fiction. However, later much of what Ivanov wrote about, found its documentary confirmation. Among the heroes of the memoirs are N. Gumilev and A. Akhmatova, A. Blok and O. Mandelstam, S. Esenin and N. Klyuev, F. Sologub and I. Severyanin, representatives of St. Petersburg literary bohemia... The reader will be interested in the large essay "On Europe by Car" - impressions of the author's trip to Nazi Germany in the 1930s.
