Edward John Morton Drax Plunkett, 18th Baron Dunsany, who published as Lord Dunsany, was the celebrated author of numerous novels, plays, and literary tales, and a pioneer of the fantasy genre itself. He was perhaps the first in European literature to create an entire "secondary world"—complete with its own cosmology, mythology, history, and geography. His mythology influenced Lovecraft, Tolkien, and Borges, while his paradoxical humor and constant play with reader expectations influenced Neil Gaiman and all modern ironic fantasy.

This book brings together three of the master's collections—Fifty-One Stories, Tales from Three Hemispheres, and The Man Who Ate the Phoenix—as well as four novels: the Chronicles of Shady Glen duology (Don Rodriguez, or The Chronicles of Shady Glen, The Handmaid's Shadow), Pan's Blessing, and The Witch's Curse. Here, an Irish youth who devours an immortal phoenix begins to see the magical underbelly of the world, a quiet village in the English countryside succumbs to the spell of the ancient god Pan, and a hereditary witch curses a peat-processing syndicate...

Some of the works are published in Russian for the first time or in new translations, while others are in new editions. The edition includes illustrations by the renowned storyteller Sidney Sime, created for the first publications of Dunsany's books.
