A Man from the USSR. Plays 1927-1938
14.99 €
The present collection consists of Vladimir Nabokov's plays The Man from the USSR, The Event and The Invention of Waltz, produced in Germany and France in 1926-1938. Unlike the earlier verse plays, they are written in prose, in which the already recognized writer continues his thematic and narrative quest. The mysterious projects of Kuznetsov, who came from the USSR to Berlin, the family drama of the artist Troshcheikin, the mad whirl of the inventor Waltz between reality and fantasy - the conflicts and collisions of these plays are surprisingly modern and fascinating.
Unpublished during Nabokov's lifetime, the drama The Man from the USSR is printed from an archival text. The play The Invention of Waltz is published for the first time in an expanded 1968 edition. The edition is equipped with the editor's commentary and an appendix including new archival materials.
