Serbian writer Goran Petrovic conceived the idea of creating a novel called "Delta", consisting of four sleeves (cycles). Each book in the cycle is an independent work. At the same time, books from different sleeves complement each other and fit together, like a mosaic, into a single large novel. Unfortunately, Goran Petrovic died in 2024, not having time to bring his entire grandiose plan to life. The novel "Paper" belongs to the first sleeve, and its action takes place in the Middle Ages.
The entire Kingdom of Naples is discussing its ruler Giovanna II. She is called insatiable and dissolute. Mothers and sisters hide their sons and brothers from her so that they do not catch the eye of the passionate queen. But Giovanna does not care about gossip. She has fallen in love once again. To achieve reciprocity, Giovanna gathers a small army, forces a dozen writers to join the campaign and sets off for precious cotton paper. The virtuosos of the pen will have to compose the perfect love letter, if, of course, Giovanna manages to get hold of the most expensive paper in the world. Everyone knows that after the twelve-year war of the rag pickers, this paper is not sold to people with a dubious reputation and impure intentions.
If you liked the works of Jorge Luis Borges, Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar, Umberto Eco, Theodor Hoffmann and Milorad Pavić, then this book by Goran Petrović is for you.
