This book is dedicated to the first battleships of the North American United States - the "Indiana", "Massachusetts" and "Oregon".

Growing out of ocean monitors, they bore their imprint in the form of low sides and, as a consequence, had unsatisfactory seaworthiness. Despite this shortcoming, on the whole, they were very strong ships for their time, which only because of political conjuncture enlisted in coastal defense ships.
During their youth, the entire series took part in the Spanish-American War of 1898. In the battle of Santiago de Cuba "Oregon" participated in the pursuit and destruction of the newest Spanish cruiser "Cristobal Colon". After 1903, the obsolete battleships were placed in reserve and put back into service several times, most recently during World War I as training ships, until finally, in 1919, they were finally removed from the Navy's ship lists.

The book is illustrated with many photographs, drawings and diagrams.
