The Admiral Sheer is one of the most famous ships of World War II. He was a witness and participant in many historical events. Its silhouette could be seen off the coast of the Spanish Civil War, in the Atlantic and Indian oceans, off the coast of Novaya Zemlya. The ship was commanded by very charismatic officers, who were often opposed by brave opponents, among whom were British and Soviet sailors. Fate was unfavorable for Admiral Scheer. It did not fall under the division of the German fleet, but was destroyed by enemy aircraft. His remains are still at the place of death, and above it is now a parking lot. There is no complete life description of this ship in Russian, and this book, if possible, will try to fill this gap.
The book, in particular, deals with the problem of the Admiral Scheer – how to classify it. Until 1940, it was called an armoured ship or battleship. Soon after the outbreak of World War II, it was reclassified into heavy cruisers, and the British called the Admiral Scheer and his sisterships pocket battleships.
