This book, edited by Doctor of Historical Sciences V. S. Izmozik and Candidate of Historical Sciences A. B. Gekht, examines the struggle of Petrograd Chekists against the anti-Bolshevik underground, which was supported by British intelligence in 1918–1919. The researchers focused on a little-studied topic: the creation of an anti-Soviet organization by British intelligence officer Paul Dukes and its exposure by the Cheka. The core of the publication consists of the memoirs of Paul Dukes himself, translated into Russian and annotated, after he managed to escape abroad. An equally extensive and engaging section of the book consists of essays, based on archival (primarily investigative) materials, devoted to the exposure of the British intelligence officer and his accomplices, as well as the main characters in this story—the Petrograd Chekists who fought espionage and their opponents. The publication includes documentary appendices and is intended for both the general reader and historians.
