The Boeing B-29 "Superfortress" ("Superfortress") strategic bomber left a significant mark in the history of world aviation. It was the first heavy bomber with a huge range for that time. And although it entered World War II only in June 1944, this airplane, which dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, made a huge contribution to the victory over Japan. It was the B-29 that became the world's first carrier of nuclear weapons. The second and last military campaign for the Super Fortresses was the Korean War of 1950-1953. On the basis of B-29 created a lot of specialized machines - refuelers, rescuers, scouts, transport aircraft. The B-29s were used in many research programs, including the development of rocketplanes and new jet engines. Copying the B-29 in the USSR under the designation Tu-4 allowed not only to seriously raise the level of the Soviet aviation industry (at the same time, the "copy" was significantly increased power of defensive armament - machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber were replaced by 20-mm guns), but also to acquire the first carrier of nuclear weapons, ensuring the country's security in the first postwar years. In the 1950s, several dozen Tu-4s were transferred to the PRC, influencing the development of China's aviation industry.
