Mikhail Demin is the pen name of Georgy Evgenievich Trifonov, a criminal and gangster nicknamed "Chuma" (Plague). He served several prison terms, and after his release, he began publishing, first in Siberian and then in the national press, releasing four collections of poetry and a book of prose. Release from a prison camp in the Soviet Union did not mean a restoration of his rights. Becoming a Soviet writer was not easy for the former gangster, and he turned to his cousin, Yuri Trifonov, whom he considered a darling of fortune, for support. In 1968, he left for Paris and became a writer-defector. In the West, he published his autobiographical trilogy "Blatnoy," "Taiga Tramp," and "Red Devil." We present this trilogy to our readers.
