The heroic 250-day defense of Sevastopol became one of the most dramatic events of the Great Patriotic War. "No name in Russia is pronounced with greater reverence than Sevastopol" - these are the words of the enemy, a Wehrmacht general, whose army was routed during the battle for the Black Sea fortress.

In the autumn of 1941, the Hitlerite command believed that Sevastopol was already in their hands, but the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet literally shielded their Main Base with their chests, and the units of the Primorskaya Army were able to create a modern defense out of almost nothing, firmly relying on artillery and communications. To destroy it, the Germans had to throw into battle an artillery hammer of monstrous striking power with guns up to 800 mm and the most powerful air corps of the Luftwaffe. As a result, in July 1942, Sevastopol fell and Erich von Manstein received the title of General Field Marshal for its capture. However, just two years later, the defeat of German troops in Crimea was devastatingly swift. The Red Army taught the Wehrmacht, and the whole world, a real master class in how to attack and win among rocks, heights and precipices.

How did the defenders of Sevastopol manage to repel the Second assault on the city? What circumstances preceded the decisive Third assault? What grouping of forces and means of reinforcement did the Wehrmacht concentrate? Why did the Soviet troops find themselves without sufficient ammunition at a critical moment? Was the decision to save the command staff correct? How did the last days and hours of the defense of Sevastopol go?

The book by the famous historian, candidate of historical sciences A.V. Isaev, based on both Russian and German archival documents, answers these and many other questions, reconstructing the course of the Battle of Sevastopol in detail. The publication is illustrated with color diagrams of the battle and many rare photographs.
