The long-awaited new book by Alexander Vasiliev - author of the bestseller "Beauty in Exile", world-famous fashion historian, collector and TV presenter! More than 250 illustrations from the author's collection, accompanied by his fascinating story! "Having carefully studied the treasures of American, European and Soviet newspapers and magazines, as well as the numerous family archives that have fallen into my hands, I have compiled them into a book that will be a stunning visual aid for a new generation, for those who care about historical memory, no matter how we feel about the legacy of the USSR. Through this publication I can tell the new generation about how the life of a Soviet person was really built, even if it was in the glow of black-and-white photography, because color printing was a rarity until the 1960s. The album "Without Retouching. Soviet Style" is a unique opportunity to assess with fresh eyes the history of the state that ceased to exist in 1991". Alexander Vasiliev When our author, the famous fashion historian Alexander Vasiliev, brought his huge archive of photographs to the publishing house, the editorial staff gasped. What to do with such a grandiose material? And here you have the selected, the most "talking" about the Soviet era photographic material, accompanied by texts by Alexander Vasiliev. Before the reader unfolds a picture of everyday life of a Soviet person, shown through a photographic lens: where they lived, how they rested, how they dressed up for dances, parades and demonstrations, what images were created in the theater, cinema and on the stage. Why "without retouching"? Because retouching was used mainly to correct the photos of officials. For example, when another party figure fell into disgrace, his hand, lying on the shoulder of a still unharmed associate, was shaded so that it simply merged with his clothes. And in place of the face of the newly minted enemy of the people suddenly appeared a bouquet of flowers. Some photographs were passed on to Alexander Vasiliev from his father, the artist Alexander Pavlovich Vasiliev, but the lion's share of the collection was formed from what the author, being a Soviet schoolboy, found at the junkyards, much later - at flea markets in different countries. And someone brought his family photos to Alexander himself, knowing how reverent he is about historical memory and how carefully he keeps it.
