Its plot takes the reader back to ancient times on the Scandinavian peninsula, to a world filled with battles, feats and feasts. A young warrior named Beowulf from the Scandinavian tribe of the Gauts, known for his strength and military skills, learns of the grief that has befallen the konung Hrodgar - twelve years a terrible monster named Grendel attacks the king's palace and exterminates his subjects. Beowulf with his retinue goes to the rescue, with this begins the narrative of the hero's exploits...
In this edition "Beowulf" is published in the full classical translation by V. Tikhomirov with notes by A. Liberman.
