Asuncion is the capital of Paraguay, a hot South American country located on the other side of the globe. But in the capital and other cities of this state there are many streets and avenues with Russian surnames: Belyaev, Malyutin, Salazkin, Kanonnikov, etc. ... People from Russia are loved and appreciated here, and many of them are included in the Pantheon of national heroes. Russian officers and soldiers - representatives of the white emigration during the Chaco War (1932-1935), in the years when the fate of Paraguay was being decided, were able to prepare, train and turn tens and hundreds of thousands of mobilized illiterate peasants into a real army capable of defending their country. Moreover, the Russian emigration brought the living word of the Orthodox Church to Latin America. A number of chapters devoted to the participation of Russian emigrants in the Chak War of the early 1930s were written by historian and writer Dmitry Abramov based on documentary sources and memoirs. Most of the book's personalities are real participants in the events described, and their fates will undoubtedly be of interest to the modern reader.
