The book Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil (1963) was written by Hannah Arendt following the trial of the Nazi criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem in 1961. Hannah attended the trial as a journalist. Studying the trial materials, listening to Eichmann's speeches, Hanna came to the conclusion that the former SS obrshurmbannführer was not some kind of sadist or a person prone to criminal behavior. In her opinion, Eichmann was an ordinary office clerk who simply carried out the orders of his superiors.
